Welcome to WiredWinds: the exciting future of wind instrument performance. Though "traditional" instruments (in all musical families) will hopefully be with us for a very long time, advances in both computer software programs and the devices that control them have given instrumentalists a new and varied set of options that have only begun to be tapped. Here at my site, I'll be featuring both the Akai EWI (Electronic Wind Instrument) 4000s and the Akai EWI USB wind controllers in a wide range of musical styles and situations. From classical to jazz/big band to "world music" applications and more, EWIs are capable of almost limitless modes of musical expression. Some of my examples demonstrate emulations (imitations) of "real" instruments, while others show sounds that are clearly not of the "natural" world--where electronics are not afraid to tread. Combined with loops and other prerecorded and/or electronically-generated tracks, the EWI becomes a virtual sound library for the adventurous wind player. I hope you enjoy these audio and video samples. Click the forward/back buttons at the bottom of this home page for audio playbacks. Be sure to visit the Music page for descriptions. I'll continue to add more content with even greater versatility---especially tracks using Reason and the EWI-friendly Rotator ReFills---as well as links to other players and EWI info, so keep checking back! Thanks!
